Formatting a Memory Card in a Garmin Dash Cam or in the Garmin Drive App
Memory Card Formatting Recommendations:
NOTE: microSD memory cards are not included with some Garmin Dash Cam devices. Device packaging and the Specs product pages on www.garmin.com will advise which ones include them.
- Format any new microSD memory card using your Garmin dash cam. See SD Memory Card Compatibility for Garmin Dash Cams
- You may also wish to format a card that is already in use. Garmin recommends formatting the card at least every 6 months.
Note: Formatting a memory card will delete all content, including protected or saved files. Ensure that you have removed all the data you want to keep before proceeding with formatting the card.
To Format a Memory Card Using the Garmin Dash Cam:
For best results, power the device as described below:
- Garmin Dash Cam X110, Garmin Dash Cam X210, Garmin Dash Cam X310:
- Power the device using the Vehicle Power Kit it came with.
- Garmin Dash Cam 46, 47, 56, 57, 66W, 67W, and Garmin Dash Cam Live:
- Power the device using the Garmin 12v adapter with the longer USB cable it came with.
- Garmin Dash Cam 45, 54. 55, 65W:
- Power the device using the Garmin vehicle power cable it came with.
Follow the Steps Below Using the Buttons on the Dash Cam,
- Or tap the touchscreen on the Garmin Dash Cam X310:
With the arrowed buttons, go to (and select
) Settings- On the Garmin Dash Cam X310 swipe the touchscreen screen, then tap Settings
- Select Camera
Select Format Card
Press the
to select OK
The device will state Format Complete when the memory card has been formatted.
To Format the Memory Card Using the Garmin Drive app:
- Open the Garmin Drive app and ensure the dash cam is turned on and paired with the Garmin Drive app
- Touch the Settings Gear icon in the top right
- Select the Garmin dash cam
- Touch Format SD Card
- Touch Format SD Card again to confirm
