Garmin Express Fails to Update the Preloaded Watch Faces and Apps on a Fitness Device

Garmin Express may fail to update the preloaded watch faces on a Forerunner 735XT, Forerunner 935, vivoactive HR, or quatix 3 device.  When this occurs, the update will freeze and never complete.

Resolution


To resolve this issue, remove the preloaded watch faces and apps from the watch and then install them from Connect IQ. 

To delete the watch faces:

WindowsMacOS/OSX
  1. Connect the device to the computer
  2. Press the Windows key + E
  3. Click This PC (Windows 10 only)
  4. Open the Garmin drive
  5. Open the Garmin folder
  6. Open the Apps folder
  7. Delete each of the files listed for your device below
    • To delete a file, right-click the file then click Delete
  1. Connect the device to the computer
  2. Open Finder
  3. Click Go in the menu bar
  4. Click Computer
  5. Open the Garmin drive
  6. Open the Garmin folder
  7. Open the Apps folder
  8. Drag each of the files listed for your device below to the Trash
  9. Empty the Trash.

Once the files have been removed and the device has been restarted, any of the watch faces can then be reinstalled from Connect IQ by visiting the links below:
