Sending a Garmin Folder from an Outdoor Handheld to Product Support

In some situations, Garmin Product Support may ask for a copy of the Garmin folder from an outdoor handheld in order to investigate an issue. Due to its size, the folder will need to be compressed and some additional files/folders deleted before emailing it to Product Support.

 

Select your computer's operating system below to reveal instructions:

Windows:
    1. Connect your device to the computer
    2. Press the Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows/File Explorer
    3. Select This PC (Windows 10 only)
    4. Open the Garmin drive listed1
    5. Right-click the Garmin folder and select Copy2
    6. Right-click on the Desktop and select Paste
    7. Double-click the new Garmin folder on the Desktop
    8. Delete or drag any files with names that begin with gmap to the Recycle Bin
    9. Delete or drag any folders with names BirdsEye, Custom Maps, GGZ, JPEG/JPG to the Recycle Bin
    10. Close the Garmin folder window
    11. Right-click the Garmin folder on the desktop
    12. Select Send to
    13. Select Compressed (zipped) folder
    14. Attach the new Garmin.zip file on the desktop to an email reply to Product Support

For devices that include map files, it can take a long time for the entire Garmin folder to finish copying to the desktop. Alternately, to save time you can create a new folder on the desktop, title it Garmin, then copy and paste everything but the files and folders mentioned in steps 8 & 9 from the Garmin folder on the device into the new folder on the desktop.

Mac OS X:
  1. Connect your device to the computer
  2. Open Finder
  3. Select Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen
  4. Select Computer
  5. Open the Garmin drive
  6. CTRL + click on the Garmin folder and select Copy "Garmin"
  7. Close the Garmin drive window
  8. CTRL + click on the Desktop and select Paste item
  9. Once pasted, double-click the new Garmin folder
  10. Delete or drag any files with names that begin with gmap to the Trash
  11. Delete or drag any folders with names BirdsEye, Custom Maps, GGZ, JPEG/JPG to the Trash
  12. CTRL + click on the Garmin folder and select Compress "Garmin"
  13. Attach the Garmin.zip file on the Desktop to an e-mail reply
