Sending a Garmin Folder from an Outdoor Handheld to Product Support
In some situations, Garmin Product Support may ask for a copy of the Garmin folder from an outdoor handheld in order to investigate an issue. Due to its size, the folder will need to be compressed and some additional files/folders deleted before emailing it to Product Support.
Select your computer's operating system below to reveal instructions:
Windows:
- Connect your device to the computer
- Press the Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows/File Explorer
- Select This PC (Windows 10 only)
- Open the Garmin drive listed1
- Right-click the Garmin folder and select Copy2
- Right-click on the Desktop and select Paste
- Double-click the new Garmin folder on the Desktop
- Delete or drag any files with names that begin with gmap to the Recycle Bin
- Delete or drag any folders with names BirdsEye, Custom Maps, GGZ, JPEG/JPG to the Recycle Bin
- Close the Garmin folder window
- Right-click the Garmin folder on the desktop
- Select Send to
- Select Compressed (zipped) folder
- Attach the new Garmin.zip file on the desktop to an email reply to Product Support

2 For devices that include map files, it can take a long time for the entire Garmin folder to finish copying to the desktop. Alternately, to save time you can create a new folder on the desktop, title it Garmin, then copy and paste everything but the files and folders mentioned in steps 8 & 9 from the Garmin folder on the device into the new folder on the desktop.
Mac OS X:
- Connect your device to the computer
- Open Finder
- Select Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen
- Select Computer
- Open the Garmin drive
- CTRL + click on the Garmin folder and select Copy "Garmin"
- Close the Garmin drive window
- CTRL + click on the Desktop and select Paste item
- Once pasted, double-click the new Garmin folder
- Delete or drag any files with names that begin with gmap to the Trash
- Delete or drag any folders with names BirdsEye, Custom Maps, GGZ, JPEG/JPG to the Trash
- CTRL + click on the Garmin folder and select Compress "Garmin"
- Attach the Garmin.zip file on the Desktop to an e-mail reply
