Using an Earthmate PN-60 GPS with a Mac Computer

Installing the Maps from the Regional Discs

The Topo North America PN-series regional discs can be used on a Mac to transfer detailed topo maps to an SD card or to the internal memory of an Earthmate® PN-60 GPS.

  1. Connect your PN-60 to your Mac using the USB cable.
  2. From the Home Page, select Settings

  3. Select Connect to Computer...

  4. From the When Connected drop down list, select Open Internal Drive or Open SD Card. We are connecting the internal drive.

  5. Set the device aside.

  6. The internal drive will now show a drive called Untitled or EM_USERMAPS on your desktop.

  7. Insert the PN-Series Regional Map DVD. It should then display on your desktop.

  8. Double-click the PN-Series Regional DVD on your desktop and then double-click the Maps folder.

  9. Select the mapping areas you want and copy them.

  10. Double-click the Untitled or EM_USERMAPS volume on your desktop and then double-click the Maps folder.
Note: If the maps folder is not present then create a new folder called Maps and open it.

  11. Paste the copied files into the Maps folder.

  12. Close all open windows.
  13. Select the Use GPS option on the PN-60.

  14. Disconnect the device from the Mac.
  15. Press and hold the Power button to turn off the device. When you turn it back on the added maps will be viewable.

Updating the Firmware

A Mac-compatible download of the latest firmware for the Earthmate PN-60 GPS is available here.

Loading Geocaches

If you have a premium membership with www.geocaching.com, you can load individual geocaches onto an Earthmate PN-60 GPS with the DeLorme® GPS Plugin available here.

Premium members can also create pocket queries created on www.geocaching.com and copy and paste the GPX files for the pocket query to the internal or SD memory of a PN-60.

Retrieving Waypoints and Tracks

Waypoints and tracks on the Earthmate PN-60 GPS are saved as GPX files. These files can be deleted or managed using the following instructions, which are compatible with most third-party applications.

  1. Connect your PN-60 to your Mac using the USB cable.
  2. From the Home Page, select Settings

  3. Select Connect to Computer...

  4. From the When Connected drop-down list, select Open Internal Drive. If you want to save the waypoint or track layer to an SD card, select Open SD Card instead.

  5. The internal drive will now show a drive called Untitled or EM_USERMAPS on your desktop.

  6. Double-click the drive called Untitled or EM_USERMAPS volume on your desktop and then double-click the Tracks or Waypoints folder to access the GPX files.
