Garmin ActiveCaptain App Isn't Receiving Smart Notifications

If the ActiveCaptain® app is not displaying some or any notifications on a compatible Garmin fishfinder or chartplotter, check the following:

1.  Verify the Garmin marine chartplotter or fishfinder is compatible with ActiveCaptain Smart Notifications

    • STRIKER™ Plus fishfinders

    • STRIKER™ Vivid fishfinders

    • ECHOMAP™ Plus chartplotters

    • ECHOMAP™ Ultra chartplotters

    • ECHOMAP™ UHD chartplotters

    • ECHOMAP™ UHD2 chartplotters

    • GPSMAP® 7x2 chartplotters | GPSMAP® 9x2 chartplotters |GPSMAP® 10x2 chartplotters |  GPSMAP® 12x2 chartplotters

    • GPSMAP® 7x3 chartplotters | GPSMAP® 9x3 chartplotters | GPSMAP® 12x3 chartplotters | GPSMAP® 16x3 chartplotters

    • GPSMAP® 74xx | GPSMAP® 76xx chartplotters

    • GPSMAP® 84xx chartplotters | GPSMAP® 86xx chartplotters

    • GPSMAP® 90xx chartplotters | GPSMAP® 92xx chartplotters

2.  Only text notifications will be displayed. Emojis, images, etc. will not be displayed

3.  Ensure the smart device is connected to the Garmin:

Enable Smart Notifications on the chartplotter or fishfinder

    1. Start on the Home Screen of the chartplotter or fish finder

    2. Select ActiveCaptain

    3. Select Smart Notifications

    4. Verify Enable is set to On

Enabling Bluetooth and Pairing on the smart device

    1. Activate Bluetooth on the smart device

    2. Open the ActiveCaptain app

    3. Select Sync with Plotter

    4. Select Pair Device

      • If the device is already listed as connected, go to Bluetooth settings and forget the device

    5. Select Continue

    6. Select Search for Chartplotter

    7. Select OK to confirm pairing with the chartplotter or fishfinder

    8. Enter the number/key displayed on the chartplotter or fishfinder and select Pair

4. Ensure Smart Notification permissions are enabled

    • For Android devices, select Change Settings to adjust which apps send notifications to the Garmin chartplotter or fishfinder

    • For iOS devices, open the Settings app and select Notifications to adjust which apps send notifications to your Garmin chartplotter or fishfinder

NOTE: For ECHOMAP™ chartplotters connected via the Garmin Marine Network, only the "Wi-Fi Host" device will display smart notifications.
