Syncing, Adding, and Deleting Garmin Explore Data on a Tread Device

The Garmin Explore™ account is an intermediary tool for creating, deleting, and transferring data to and from GPS navigators. You must connect to the Tread® app and enable Garmin Explore to sync your Garmin Explore Account data with the Tread.


NOTE: When using the Tread series devices, it is recommended to use the Tread app for creating and managing waypoints, routes, and tracks. The Garmin Explore website can be used to manage waypoints and tracks, but does not support route creation for the Tread devices. 


Synchronizing Garmin Explore Account Data

The Garmin Explore website and mobile app will wirelessly sync data with each other and the Tread. Information that is added or deleted from the Garmin Explore account from the website or app will then be added or removed from the Tread the next time it syncs to the Tread app. If your smartphone does not have an active internet connection, it will not be able to sync.

To Delete Garmin Explore Data on the Tread XL - Baja Chase Edition and Tread XL - Baja Race Edition:

  1. Touch Race Files.
  2. Touch the file category you want to view.
    • Touch All to view all the files.
    • Touch Waypoints to view only the waypoints.
    • Touch Tracks to view only the tracks.
    • Touch Collections to view only the collections.
  3. Touch the Three Dots in the upper right hand corner.
  4. Touch Select and Edit.
  5. Touch the empty box next to each file you want to delete.
  6. Touch the Trash icon.
  7. Touch Yes.

To Delete Garmin Explore Data in the Tread app:

  1. Open the Tread app.
  2. Touch the menu icon (3 bars) in the top left.
  3. Touch Explore Library.
  4. Select an item to delete.
  5. Touch Delete.
  6. Touch Continue.

To Delete Garmin Explore Data on the Arctic Cat G8 Display, Kawasaki RIDGE 8" Tread Display, Tread - Overland Edition, Tread - SxS, and Tread XL- Overland Edition:

  1. Touch Apps.
  2. Touch Adventure.
  3. Touch Explore.
  4. Select a category.
  5. Touch Delete.
  6. Select items to delete.
  7. Touch Delete.
  8. Touch Yes.

To Delete Garmin Explore Data in the Tread app:

  1. Open the Tread app.
  2. Touch the menu icon (3 bars) in the top left.
  3. Touch Explore Library.
  4. Select an item to delete.
  5. Touch Delete.
  6. Touch Continue.

The Arctic Cat G8 Display and Kawasaki RIDGE 8" Tread Display do not include the inReach® antenna and cannot be used with an inReach subscription. The Tread - SXS Edition, Tread - Overland Edition, Tread XL - Baja Chase Edition, Tread XL - Baja Race Edition, and Tread XL - Overland Edition can be used with or without an inReach subscription. Both result in a different experience when the device is used with the Garmin Explore website (for more information, see - Overview of the Garmin Explore Website.

When paired and connected, the Tread, website, and Tread app regularly communicate with each other. When the app syncs, it sends and receives user data between the website and the Tread. With an inReach subscription, the app also syncs account changes made on the website, such as check-in messages ( formerly known as preset messages) and inReach contacts, to the Tread.

NOTE: You must use the Tread app to sync data to and from the Tread. The inReach Sync application is not compatible.

Items That Sync Between the Paired Device, Garmin Explore Website, and Tread App

NOTE: When a device is suspended, the inReach capabilities will cease to function (messaging, SOS, etc.), but all other aspects of the device still work. As such, it can still sync with the Tread app and Garmin Explore website while suspended. As of September 2024, new Consumer Plans will no longer have suspension as an option.
