Edge Device Displays "Can't Unlock Maps" or "Route Calculation Error" Message

If your device is displaying "Can't Unlock Maps" or "Route calculation error", it is recommended to re-install the map using the Garmin Express™ application. For further assistance, select the method in which you purchased your mapping: 


Purchased Download From Garmin.com

If you are getting this message from content that has been downloaded from Garmin Express:

Reinstall the maps onto your Garmin device

  1. Open the Garmin Express app from your personal computer.

  2. Select your device if you have multiple products added to Garmin Express.

  3. Select the Purchased tab.

  4. Select  Cloud icon with a down arrow


Mapping Was Purchased From Somewhere Else

If the mapping was purchased directly from a Garmin dealer:
  1. Make sure the mapping is compatible with your device.  Here are the maps that Garmin offers for Edge devices:

  2. Contact dealer to determine if the card can be exchanged.


The Maps Came Preloaded on the Device

If you are getting this message and the only maps installed on the device are the ones that came preloaded, try reinstalling the maps:
  1. Launch Garmin Express from your desktop PC or Mac.

  2. Select your device.

  3. Under Your Queue section of Express:

    • If a Map Update is available, you will click View Details and then select Install and your update will be complete.

    • If Express detects that the maps on the device are current, but may need to be re-installed, click on Map Details and proceed to Step 4 below.

  4. Select Map Options.

  5. Select Reinstall Map.
