Setting up a Montana to Work Like a Garmin Automotive Device

The Montana® outdoor handhelds allow the user to set up the navigation features to mirror our automotive devices, like the Nüvi® or Garmin Drive™ GPS navigator series.

Since the Montana handheld is an outdoor device, there are some changes to the settings that must be done for it to behave in this way. Those changes are listed below.

Important

  • In order for the Montana handheld to route on roads like an automotive device, they must have a routable road map loaded. Examples of this kind of mapping are City Navigator® or Topo 24K
  • While changing these settings will get the Montana handheld to behave as similarly to Garmin automotive devices as possible, there are some features that are not the same

Switching Profile on the Montana Handheld

  1. Access the Main Menu
    • Montana 600 handheld users: Touch Image of Montana App Drawer Icon to open the Application drawer
    • Montana 700 handheld users: Touch House Menu Icon
  2. Select Profile Change
  3. Select Automotive or Driving

Once the profile is set properly, you also want to ensure the routing preferences are correct.

The device should now behave very similarly to an automotive device.
