GPSMAP 276/376/378/478 Will not Power on With Battery
If a portable chartplotter will only power on when attached to external power, it is possible the internal battery has not been charged properly, or that the software on the device needs to be updated. If the device will not power on when the battery is inserted, even when connected to external power, try removing the battery to see if it will power on. If it does, it may be an issue with the device's settings.
There is a setting within the device that can effect how the device charges*.
Follow these steps to check this setting:
Press the Menu button twice to access the Main Menu
Scroll down and highlight the Setup tab located on the left hand side of the screen
Press the Right arrow button one time to highlight the System tab at the top of the screen
Highlight the setting for External Power On at the bottom of the screen
Press the Enter button
Highlight Charge Battery
Press the Enter button
*If this setting is not an option on your device, the software will need to be updated first.
The next step is to update the internal software of the device. Be sure to back up your user data first to ensure nothing is lost during the update. To download the latest update for this device, review the Related Content.
If the device will still not power on using only the internal battery, the battery itself may need to be replaced. These batteries are no longer available directly through Garmin but may be found elsewhere online by searching for part number 010-10517-02.
