"Drive is Slowing Down Wi-Fi" Message on Android Phone

When using the Garmin Drive App on an Android phone, you may encounter what seems like an error message -- "Drive is slowing down Wi-Fi."

Drive is Slowing Down Wi-Fi

The Android operating system by default allows apps to run in the background with network data access.  The Garmin Drive App uses this connection to periodically check for firmware updates, red light & speed camera updates, availability of new saved videos for Garmin Vault uploads, etc. Many apps are performing similar background network activities, such as email apps, message apps and weather apps.

The Wi-Fi Tips app is part of the Android operating system.  It will periodically display a notification to remind users of background activities.  The message is informational in nature and does not necessarily indicate a problem.  If your Wi-Fi connection is indeed slow and the Garmin Drive App is not currently in use, display the open apps and close the Garmin Drive App.

Although not advised, if you want to permanently disable the Garmin Drive App's access to mobile data or a Wi-Fi network in the background, search Android settings for "data usage," locate the Drive App within, and swipe left on the option Allow background data usage to turn it off.
