Route Created on Computer Not Following Road or Trail on Garmin Mode Device When Previewing It
Some mapping products (including TOPO U.S. 24K and City Navigator® NT) feature roads and trails, many of which are routable. While MapSource® and BaseCamp™ software programs will allow the route along a trail or road to be viewed, certain conditions must be met on the device to see the route:
- Ensure the device supports automatic routing
- Select the picture of the device on our Outdoor Device product page*
- Select the "Specs" tab
- Locate the "Automatic routing (turn by turn routing on roads)" field
- Ensure automatic routing is supported
- Ensure the same mapping is installed on both the computer and the device
- Ensure loaded mapping covers entirety of route
- Confirm guidance method is set to "Follow Road" on the device
- Navigate route. When previewing routes on a Garmin mode device, the route points will appear connected directly via straight lines rather than on road. The device does not actually calculate the route until "Navigate" is selected.
Once the above conditions are met, the route will follow roads and trails that are routable.
*If unable to locate the device:
- If it is a non-mapping device, it will not support automatic routing as it does not support mapping products.
- If the device is discontinued, look under the discontinued section to locate the device.
