Transferring user data from HomePort to a GPSMAP 400 or 500 series device
HomePort is a program that allows for the creation and editing of user data like waypoints, routes, and tracks. This user data can then be transferred to a Garmin marine device. To transfer this information, please read the following instructions:
An SD card* will be required to transfer the data to a GPSMAP 400 or 500 series device. It is not necessary, but recommended, to prepare the SD card in the Garmin device before proceeding.
Preparing the SD card
- Insert the SD card into the device while the device is powered OFF
- Power ON the chartplotter
- When the I Agree screen appears, the card has been prepared and can be removed from the device
Transfer from Computer to an SD card
- Insert the SD card into the computer
- Open HomePort
- The user data should appear on the left side of the program in the My Collection folder or any other folder that may have been created
- Right-click on the user data (either individual data or folder that contains the data) and select Send To
- Select the SD card that should be labeled as the device (if the card was prepared)
- Select Untitled (or any other folder that may have been created on the card)
On the left-hand side you will notice the "Untitled" file, listed under the SD card will have a yellow transfer status indication. Once the indicator turns green, the user data has been transferred to the SD card.
Transfer from SD card to the device
- Insert the SD card into the device
- Choose Manage Card
- Choose either Merge From Card or Replace From Card
- Merge From Card will copy the user data from the card and add it to the existing user data that is already saved in the device
- Replace From Card will copy the user data from the SD card and replace the existing user data that is already saved in the device
- Choose Untitled (or the name of the folder that the data was sent to when using HomePort)
The information will now be visible on the device and can be used at any time.
*Most devices can read up to a 32 GB SD card, some are restricted to 2 GB. Please review the related content for a list of devices and supported SD card sizes.
