CPP and HPP errors that occur when running Garmin applications can be caused by a corrupt installation or insufficient privileges on the computer.

Verify the latest version of the Garmin application is installed on the computer. The newest versions of Garmin mapping applications can be found at Garmin Applications: Updates and Downloads.
MPL errors indicate an issue with the application reading maps that are installed on the computer. If you receive an MPL error, repair the installed maps on the computer.
To Repair an Installed Map:
- Press the Windows key + R
- Type appwiz.cpl
- Click Ok
- Select the Garmin map product from the listed applications
- Click the Repair option
- After the repair finishes, run the Garmin application again

On Windows Vista or newer, setting the application to run as the administrator can resolve permission issues.
To Set the Application to Run as Administrator:
- Press the Windows key
- Type the name of the application
- Right-click on the application name in the search results
- Click Open file location
- Right-click on the executable file for the application
- Click Properties
- Click Compatibility
- Check the Run this application as administrator box
- Click OK
- Run the application again
If the error still occurs after these steps, completely uninstall and reinstall the application.
To Uninstall the Application From the Control Panel:
- Press the Windows key + R
- Type appwiz.cpl
- Click OK
- Select the Garmin application to uninstall
- Click Uninstall
After uninstalling the application through the control panel, delete the associated registry keys to ensure the application is completely uninstalled.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. Garmin cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To Open Registry Editor:
Press the Windows key + R.
Type regedit.
Click OK.
NOTE: Before making any changes, create a backup of the registry.
To Back Up the Registry:
Click File in the menu bar of the Registry Editor.
Click Export.
Under Export range, click All.
Name the file (e.g. regbackup).
Choose an accessible location to save the file, such as the Desktop.
Click the Save button.
Registry Editor may appear to freeze for several minutes while the backup is created. "(Not Responding)" may also display in the title bar during this process. Once the application starts responding again, the registry key can be deleted.
To Delete the Registry Keys:
- Click ▷ next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
- Click ▷ next to Software
- Right-click the Garmin folder
- Click Delete
- Click Yes to confirm
- Click ◢ next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to collapse the folder
- Click ▷ next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Click ▷ next to Software
- Click ▷ next to Wow6432Node (This step only applies to 64-bit operating systems)
- Right-click the Garmin folder
- Click Delete
- Click Yes to confirm
- Close Registry Editor
After the application has been completely uninstalled, reinstall the application using the latest version from the Garmin website.
After completing the uninstall and reinstall, the error in the Garmin application should be corrected.
