Alternate Install Feature in Garmin Express
Garmin Express™ software allows the selection of a custom installation directory in two circumstances: during the installation of the program itself and during a map update or map update reinstall. Both options allow advanced users to change the installation directory on the computer.
The chosen install locations must be on an internal hard drive. Regardless of which directory is selected, it's required to have 20 GB of free space on the computer's system hard drive (C: Drive). If you receive the error message "not enough space on computer, this computer does not have enough space to download the update." You will need to free up additional space on your hard drive.
To Select a Specific Drive to Install the Garmin Express Program to:
1. Go to the Garmin Express webpage
2. Click Download for Windows
3. Run the downloaded GarminExpress.exe or GarminExpressInstaller.exe file
- For help on this step, see Opening a Downloaded File on Windows.
4. Review the terms and conditions, then click the checkbox
5. Click Options to change the install location of Garmin Express software
6. Click Browse and select the Installation Location
7. Click Back
8. Click Install
9. Once the installation is complete, click Launch Garmin Express
10. Click Get Started to begin using Garmin Express software
A specific Drive can also be selected when installing maps to the computer. Installing maps to the computer for use with Garmin BaseCamp™ or MapInstall™ software will use the most disk space. The install location for the maps can be changed to a hard drive other than the system's hard drive to save space.
See Installing Maps to the Computer Using Garmin Express to select a specific Drive to install the maps on the computer.
