Approach G12 or S12 Not Recognized By the Computer
Mass storage devices typically appear as a drive on your computer, allowing for easy access to data on the device regardless of operating system. Occasionally, the device may not appear as a drive. To troubleshoot a Garmin golf USB mass storage product that is not being recognized by the computer the following steps can be performed.
Check Computer Connections
- Try using another USB cable, confirming that it is a power and data transfer cable.
- Connect directly to the computer, not through a USB hub.
Force Connection
- Ensure device battery is fully charged
- Disconnect Approach from computer
- Power Approach off
- Press and hold OK
- Plug the Approach into computer, continue to hold OK
- Wait until device is recognized by computer, it may take up to 30 seconds for device to be recognized as a drive
- If prompted, install USB device drivers
- Release OK
- Upload scorecards to Garmin Connect™ account with Garmin Express™ program to back them up
- Delete the Scorecards folder
- Make sure to empty the Trash if using a Mac computer
- Unmount the Approach from the computer
- Windows: Right-click on Approach device's drive and click Eject
- Mac: Drag the drive to the Trash
- Disconnect the Approach device from computer
- Power on the Approach device
Your device should now function normally.
