Approach G12 or S12 Not Recognized By the Computer

Mass storage devices typically appear as a drive on your computer, allowing for easy access to data on the device regardless of operating system. Occasionally, the device may not appear as a drive. To troubleshoot a Garmin golf USB mass storage product that is not being recognized by the computer the following steps can be performed.


Check Computer Connections

  • Try using another USB cable, confirming that it is a power and data transfer cable.
  • Connect directly to the computer, not through a USB hub.

Force Connection

  1. Ensure device battery is fully charged
  2. Disconnect Approach from computer
  3. Power Approach off
  4. Press and hold OK
  5. Plug the Approach into computer, continue to hold OK
  6. Wait until device is recognized by computer, it may take up to 30 seconds for device to be recognized as a drive
  7. If prompted, install USB device drivers
  8. Release OK
  9. Upload scorecards to Garmin Connect™ account with Garmin Express™ program to back them up
  10. Delete the Scorecards folder
    • Make sure to empty the Trash if using a Mac computer
  11. Unmount the Approach from the computer
    • Windows: Right-click on Approach device's drive and click Eject
    • Mac: Drag the drive to the Trash
  12. Disconnect the Approach device from computer
  13. Power on the Approach device

Your device should now function normally.
