How to Track an Alpha LTE Collar on an Alpha Dog Tracking Handheld

The Alpha® LTE dog tracking collar can be tracked on an Alpha 10, Alpha 200, Alpha 200i, Alpha 200 Plus, Alpha 300, or Alpha 300i dog tracking handheld, or Alpha XL navigator if it is:

  • Paired to a compatible VHF dog tracking collar, and
  • the VHF dog tracking collar paired to the Alpha LTE collar is within VHF range of the dog tracking handheld tracking , or
  • the Alpha LTE collar and Alpha app that is paired to the dog tracking handheld are both within LTE coverage.

The Alpha LTE and compatible Alpha VHF dog tracking products work within an ecosystem that allow them to back each other up depending on what communication coverage options are available. If you are using the Alpha LTE collar within a compatible VHF dog tracking system it is highly recommended that you pair your Alpha LTE collar to the VHF dog tracking collar, and pair your Alpha dog tracking handheld to the Alpha app on your smartphone. In that system you have two collars tracking the dog capable of reporting their location with different communication systems, and you have two devices available to remotely track the dog(s).

When the Alpha LTE collar is paired to a compatible VHF collar the collars' location will be reported to the Alpha handheld by VHF when within range.

  • On an Alpha 200, Alpha 200i, Alpha 200 Plus, Alpha 300, Alpha 300i, or Alpha XL device you can view the status of both the VHF collar and the Alpha LTE collar.
  • If you select the dog in the dog list you will then see 2 tabs, one for the VHF collar and one for the Alpha LTE collar.

If the tracking device and VHF tracking collar are not in VHF range of each other the Alpha LTE collar will communicate with the paired smartphone when they are both within LTE coverage. In that situation, if the Alpha app is paired to the dog tracking handheld the tracking will be available on the handheld, however the functions of the VHF collar requiring the VHF connection will not function - for example training commands and changing the beacon lights on the VHF collar.
