User Location on the Garmin Explore Website Map

The user location on the Garmin Explore™ website map is represented by a blue triangle with the map display name.

From the top left corner of the map, click Explore Website Center Map on User to center the map on the user.

Garmin Explore Map User Location

The user location will only move when an inReach® message including the location is sent, inReach tracking is sent from an active inReach device, or when a track gets uploaded into the Garmin Explore website. The user will be located wherever the latest location message or track is located.

NOTE: Date and time stamps will be displayed using the time zone your computer or mobile device is set to, which may differ from date and time provided by the handheld device.

User Location Changing With an inReach Message

The user location will move on the Garmin Explore website map if a message with location is sent. For information on how to send an inReach message with location, see - Sending and Navigating to a Message Location with an inReach.

NOTE: If a MapShare™ page is enabled on the account, MapShare must be selected as a contact when sending the location message for the user location to update on the MapShare page. For more information on setting up MapShare, see the Garmin Explore Web Help manual.

User Location Changing With inReach Tracking

When inReach tracking is sent from an active inReach device, the user location will move to the latest track point that was sent. For more information on how to use inReach tracking, see the owner's manual for your compatible inReach.

User Location Changing on Non-inReach Garmin Explore Accounts

The user location will move on the Garmin Explore website map when a saved track is synced from a compatible Garmin device into the Garmin Explore website. The user location will also move to the location of an imported track file. For more information on importing data into the Garmin Explore website, see - Importing Waypoints, Routes, and Tracks Into the Garmin Explore Website.

Track Synced Into Garmin Explore Website

The above image shows the user location when a saved track was synced into the Garmin Explore website.

When the following items are synced or imported into the account, the user location will not update:

  • Activities

  • Courses

  • Routes

  • Waypoints

If you are looking to have a live tracking feature for a non-inReach device, LiveTrack with the Garmin Connect™ app should be used. A Wi-Fi or cellular data connection is required. For more information and a list of devices compatible with LiveTrack, see - How to Use the LiveTrack Feature in the Garmin Connect App.
