Permissions for Connect IQ Applications
Apps, widgets, watch faces, and data fields downloaded through the Connect IQ™ store can have multiple permissions needed to access specific functionalities on your Garmin® device to function as designed. When you download a Connect IQ item you may receive a message that shows like the following message.
What Does Each Permission Mean?
Select a permission from the list below to jump to a description of what that permission does.
Run in the Background When It Is Not Active (Potentially Affecting Battery Life)
Saved Information Such as Courses, Routes, Waypoints, Tracks or Workouts
Permission to Use ANT
Allows the application to communicate over ANT wireless. The ANT wireless protocol is a low-power communications protocol that provides very efficient transfer of data.
Run in the Background When It Is Not Active (Potentially Affecting Battery Life)
Allows the application to trigger on events when not running in the foreground, and update data when it is not active.
Permission to Use Bluetooth Low Energy
Allows the application to access generic Bluetooth® Low Energy communication functionality in the central role. Including the ability to scan for peripheral devices, pair with sensors, and performing GATTC operations on a peripheral.
Send/Receive Information To/From the Internet
Allows the application to send and receive information from cloud services. It can communicate via your mobile phone, or establish a Wi-Fi® connection. Apps can also communicate with other paired mobile apps using the Connect IQ SDK.
Broadcasts Data for Watch Faces to Subscribe To
Allows an application to publish data that watch faces can subscribe to and display.
Read and Display Data From Other Apps
Allows a watch face to subscribe to data published by third party applications.
Send You On-Device Alerts
Allows a data field to display an alert during an activity. The alert has to be enabled via the alerts menu of the activity.
Fit Files (Activity Recordings)
Allows apps to record an activity and embed additional information. The activity may sync with the Garmin Connect™ platform.
Record Additional Information Into Activity Files
Allows data fields to record data into FIT files on the device's file system during an activity. This is useful for recording data that is not already calculated by the device, which can be synced to a service like Garmin Connect.
Saved Information Such as Courses, Routes, Waypoints, Tracks or Workouts
Allows access to stored routes, waypoints, and other stored user data. The information available includes the name, and an identifier allowing the app to launch an associated activity.
Write Locations to This Device’s Location List
Allows the saving of a location (waypoint) to a device's location list. This feature is only available on devices that support waypoints.
GPS Location
The app can enable the onboard GPS to track the user’s location. It can also determine a low-fidelity location if paired with a mobile device.
Permission to Use Push Notifications
This app is allowed to receive information via a push notification.
Sensor Data (i.e., ANT+, Heart Rate, Compass)
Allows an app to enable integrated sensors like the accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate, and pulse oximetry sensors, as well as paired sensors like bike speed, bike cadence, foot pods, heart rate straps, and temperature sensors.
Heart Rate, Barometer, Temperature and Altitude History
Provides visibility to on-device history for the following:
Body Battery
Elevation
Heart Rate
Oxygen Saturation
Pressure
Stress
Temperature
Permission to Log Sensor Data
Allows an app to record high frequency information like the accelerometer and gyroscope information into an activity file.
Your Garmin Connect™ Account Fitness Profile
