Displaying the Approach Plate on my GPSMAP 695 or GPSMAP 696 while Executing an Approach

When a flight plan or destination airport is entered in the GPSMAP® 695 or GPSMAP® 696, and you wish to view the approach plate, from the Map Page, follow the steps below:

  1. Rotate the FMS joystick to WPT.

  2. On the bottom row of soft keys, select Chart.

  3. At the top of the screen, note the three-letter ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) identifier. If the departure airport is in this field, select the Menu soft key and scroll to View Destination Airport.

  4. Enable the FMS joystick by pushing in on the joystick knob. Twist the joystick and a list of the current approaches, airport diagram, and minimums will appear.

  5. Scroll to the appropriate approach by twisting the joystick and select Enter.

The approach selected should be viewable on the 695/696 and a magenta-colored aircraft will appear on the approach plate as part of the Geo-Referencing feature. As long as the GPSMAP 695 or GPSMAP 696 has software version 4.0 or greater and a current version of the charts update, the aircraft will overlay on the plate.
