I Cannot Pair My ANT+ Fitness Device to Garmin Express

Some Garmin devices will communicate with Garmin Express using a Garmin USB ANT Stick. If Garmin Express fails to detect an ANT+ enabled fitness device or displays an error while pairing, follow the troubleshooting steps below which should solve most problems.

ANT+ Pairing Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Ensure that pairing is enabled on the Garmin fitness device

    • On vivofit devices, press and hold the button until PAIR is displayed.

  2. Verify that Garmin Express is up to date..

  3. Verify that the USB ANT stick is connected properly.

  4. Connect the ANT stick to a different USB port.

    • Avoid connecting the ANT stick through a USB hub, extension cable, laptop dock, or USB port on the monitor or keyboard.

  5. Close/quit Garmin Express and restart/reboot the computer and attempt pairing again.

  6. Eliminate obstacles to wireless communication.

    • Place the device within 9 feet (3 meters) of the ANT stick.

    • ANT devices broadcast at 2.4 GHz, which is a frequency used by many other wireless devices. Avoid placing devices that use Bluetooth, WiFi, or any other wireless communication protocol directly next to or between the ANT stick and device.

  7. If possible, power the device off and turn it back on. Once the device is powered on, attempt to pair it again. Some devices cannot be powered off. For these devices, do the following:

    • vivofit/vivofit 2: Press and hold the device key until the screen is blank (approximately 20 seconds), then release the device key.

    • vivofit 3: Press and hold the device key until the screen turns off (approximately 10 seconds), then release the device key. 

    • vivofit 4: Press and hold the device key until the screen turns off (approximately 15 seconds), then release the device key. The device will briefly display a triangle, and then displays the watch face. 

    • Forerunner 405/405CX/410:

      1. Connect device to computer using charging clip.

      2. Press and hold Start/Stop and Lap/Reset for 10 seconds.

      3. Release and wait 3 seconds for device to power on.

  8. If Garmin Express displays a server error, follow the instructions in the FAQ Garmin Express Displays a Server Error.

The ANT+ fitness device should now successfully pair to Garmin Express.
