Third-Party Mapping for Latin America
The upload of third-party maps to Garmin GPS devices is a common practice in Latin America. These maps are often free to download, easily found online, promoted by online forums, or sometimes preloaded to Garmin devices by third-party dealers.
Garmin Cannot Provide Technical Support for Unauthorized Third-Party Maps. These Maps can Damage Garmin Devices, Causing one or More of the Following Symptoms:
- The product randomly shuts down while calculating a route
- Problems calculating routes
- No icons displayed on the map
- The device powers off after selecting Where To? or View Map
- Inaccuracies on the map, POI's, or Safety Cameras
If any of the issues listed above are caused by the presence of an unauthorized third-party map, the device's warranty is void.
Although Garmin sells a wide variety of map products, some countries and regions do not have an official map product available through Garmin. For this reason, Garmin authorizes certain third-party companies to utilize Garmin map technology to create maps for these areas.
