Compass Safe Distances from Garmin® Devices
Garmin® Marine devices output Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) that can cause inaccurate readings on a nearby compass. Mounting the chartplotter far enough from the compass will prevent compass inaccuracy due to EMI.
Each Garmin Marine device has a Compass Safe Distance found in the installation manual. Measure the distance from the center of the compass to the closest edge of the Garmin.
The safe compass distance for each chartplotter / sounder / instrument is listed in the installation manual of the device under the SPECs for the unit.
