dēzlCam 785 Not Recording or Missing Video

NOTE: The VIRB® Mobile app has been discontinued from the Google Play Store and is no longer available to download for Android devices.

Follow the steps below if saved or unsaved footage cannot be found on your dēzlCam™ 785 LMT-S GPS navigator, the VIRB™ Mobile app, or the device's SD card:

  1. Ensure the device is recording video
  2. Check Automatic Incident Detection settings
  3. Check Unsaved Videos settings
  4. Check SD card compatibility
  5. Ensure the device and VIRB Mobile app are up to date
  6. Format or replace the SD card

Ensure the Device is Recording Video

Make sure the SD card is inserted all the way into the video slot on the bottom of the device. The SD slot on the right edge of the device is for data instead of video; if no SD card is inserted into the video slot on the back, the device will not record footage. See Adding a SD Memory Card for the Camera or Device on a dēzlCam 785 or Camper/RV 785 for more information.

The device will show a  not recording or  paused icon in the upper left corner of the screen if it is not recording video.

Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the menu if the not recording icon is shown. Touch the Dash Cam notification and follow the instructions given.

Swipe down to open the device menu and press the record icon if the paused icon is shown.

The dēzlCam 785 LMT-S cannot record video if it is connected to a computer, the Gallery app is open on the device, and/or the device has been placed into sharing mode with the Garmin VIRB Mobile app. Closing the VIRB Mobile app will not be sufficient to end sharing mode if the device is connected to the app on your phone to share footage. It will be necessary to exit sharing mode on the device itself by pressing Stop Sharing.

Check Automatic Incident Detection Settings

Automatic Incident Detection may be disabled or set to a low sensitivity if the dēzlCam 785LMT-S is not saving video of events (e.g. collisions or sudden stops).

To Check Automatic Incident Detection Settings on the dēzlCam 785 LMT-S:

1. Touch the Settings gear

2. Touch Dash Cam

3. Touch Automatic Incident Detection

4. Select a sensitivity level

The dēzlCam 785 LMT-S will now automatically save video when it detects an event.

Check Unsaved Videos Settings

Unsaved footage may be missing from the device's Gallery, the VIRB Mobile app, or the SD card when plugged into a computer to view the files. Setting the device to promptly delete unsaved footage when powered down can cause this. This setting extends the life of the SD card but removes the footage of your drive.

To Check Unsaved Video Settings:

1. Touch the Settings gear

2. Touch Dash Cam

3. Scroll down and touch Unsaved Footage

4. Touch Delete When Full

Unsaved footage will now be stored on the SD card until the card's storage is full.

Check SD Card Compatibility

The dēzlCam 785 LMT-S may not be able to record footage on incompatible SD cards. The dēzlCam 785 LMT-S requires a Class 10 microSD card and will accept sizes up to 64 GB.  See SD Memory Card Sizes for Automotive Devices.

Ensure the Device is up to Date

The software of your dēzlCam 785 LMT-S can be updated by connecting the device to a power source and Wi-Fi network. See Wireless Map and Software Update Instructions for instructions.

Format or Replace the SD Card

The SD card may need to be formatted to record more footage if it contains corrupted data. See Formatting the Camera microSD Card or Map microSD Card on a dēzlCam 785 or Camper/RV 785 .

You may need to replace the card if the dēzlCam 785 LMT-S still shows no videos recorded after formatting the card or if the card cannot be formatted. See SD Memory Card Sizes for Automotive Devices for information about recommended card sizes.

Contact Product Support if the dēzlCam 785 LMT-S continues to fail to record any video.
