Travelapse recording on the Garmin DriveAssist 51

The Travelapse feature on the Garmin DriveAssist 51 captures a short fast-motion overview video of your entire trip. The feature varies the capture rate based on speed to provide the best playback experience.  The device continues to record regular dash cam footage while recording a Travelapse video.

You can record a Travelapse with the prompt that appears whenever you start a longer route or a saved trip, or you can start and stop a Travelapse recording manually.

To use the automatic Travelapse prompt:

  1. Start a route that is two hours or longer
  2. Touch the Press to Record with Travelapse message that appears at the top of the map screen

The camera map tool will appear, and the device will start recording a Travelapse video.

To manually start or stop Travelapse recording:

Select an option:

  • From the map:
    1. Touch the tools icon
    2. Touch Camera
    3. Touch Start Travelapse or Stop Travelapse

  • From the main menu:
    1. Touch Apps
    2. Touch Dash Cam
    3. Touch Travelapse to start and stop the recording
      • A Travelapse is currently being recorded when the icon is red

If Travelapse is still recording when the device suspends or shuts down, it will prompt to continue recording when the device starts up again.  In this situation the device will prompt “Continue recording this Travelapse session?” with the following options:

  • Yes to continue recording to the same video file
  • No to stop recording Travelapse

To view your Travelapse videos:

  1. On the main screen, touch Apps
  2. Touch Gallery
  3. Touch Yes
  4. Select your Travelapse video (will be marked with the Travelapse  icon)
  5. Touch the play button

The selected Travelapse will play.
