How to Reset a Legacy eTrex Handheld
There are a few instances in which it is necessary to perform a full reset on an eTrex® outdoor handheld, including the following:
- Not receiving a satellite signal
- Restoring the factory default settings
- Not functioning properly
The information and steps below will walk you through backing up your data and resetting.
Before Resetting
Performing a full reset can cause loss of user data including waypoints, routes, tracks, and geocaches. It is recommended to back up important data before resetting.
If the eTrex handheld has a USB interface, refer to Related to transfer user data with the free BaseCamp™ program.
If the eTrex utilizes a serial interface, refer to Backup User Data for eTrex Handheld to transfer user data with MapSource® software.
Performing a Full Reset
- Power off the eTrex.
- Press and hold both the Page1 and Enter2 buttons simultaneously.
- Power on the device while continuing to hold Page and Enter.
- Release all buttons once the Do you really want to erase all user data? message appears.
- Select Yes.
The eTrex is now reset. You will want to take the device outside in a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to re-acquire satellite data.
1 This is the Quit/Compass button on some eTrex models.
2 Enter for models with a thumb stick is pressing the center of the thumb stick down. It is important that the thumb stick does not move to any side, as this will prevent the reset from working.
