Frequently Asked Questions About inReach Freedom Plans
Freedom Plans allow the user to change plans or suspend service at any time after 30 days of plan use.
After selecting a new plan or suspending service, the inReach website alerts you of the pending change. You can alter or cancel the pending change at any time before the change takes effect.

I Recently Signed up for an inReach Freedom Plan Service Subscription. Where Is My Invoice? When Will I Be Charged?
Your invoice will be generated and sent to the email address at the completion of your service activation. Your credit card will be charged within 24 hours of activation.
What Day of the Month Will My Credit Card Be Charged?
The date of your service activation is your established renewal date. If you are reactivating service, the date you reactivated on becomes your new renewal date for your 30-day billing cycle. This date recurs monthly and subsequently releases your monthly invoice. Your credit card is charged within 24 hours of your renewal date unless you make changes to your inReach service prior to your renewal date.
If your bill date falls on the 29th, 30th, or 31st of the month, then the bill date will move to the first of the following month. For example, if your plan has a bill date of July 30th and is set to automatically renew, your renewal will take place on Aug 1st and you will be charged on that date.
Why Do I Have to Wait 30 Days to Suspend or Lower My Service Plan?
Your Freedom Plan is a pre-paid service. Since you have already paid for your monthly subscription cycle, any scheduled downgrade or suspension will only take place on your upcoming renewal date allowing you to utilize your full prepayment.
I Canceled My Plan and Have Some Unused Messages Left. Do I Get a Refund?
No, unused messages are not refunded.
Why Was I Charged for Another Month When I Upgraded My Service Plan?
When you upgrade your Freedom subscription, the plan change is effective immediately and the remaining prepayment is pro-rated based from your renewal to the date your upgrade will take effect. The difference of the pro-rated amount and the new service plan will be charged to you. Your new renewal date will now recur based on the date your service was upgraded.
I Did Not Use All of My Messages This Month. Will Unused Messages Roll-Over to the Next Month?
If your service is active on a Freedom Safety or Freedom Recreation plan, unused messages will not roll-over into the next month. Customers with the Freedom Expedition or Freedom Extreme¹ plans have unlimited messaging.
¹ As of November 2019 Extreme subscriptions are no longer available for purchase. All existing Extreme plan users can remain in their plan until they deactivate or cancel their subscription. All features of the Extreme plan have moved to the Expedition plan.
Why Is My First Invoice So High?
Your first invoice includes the Annual Program Fee, first month’s service costs, plus any applicable taxes and/or fees.
What Are the "System" or "Units" Items on My Invoice?
The System call type on your invoice represents when the inReach device is checking in with the satellite network and may also complete a Mail Check. The Units represent the number of bytes of data transmitted to the Iridium network.
Do I Have to Pay to Move up or Down a Plan?
No, there are no additional fees to move up or down a plan.
When Moving up or Down a Plan, When Does the Change Take Effect?
Moving up a plan takes effect immediately and the remaining prepayment is pro-rated based from the renewal and any message overage will also be due. The new renewal date will now recur based on the date the service was upgraded. Moving down a plan will take effect at the end of the current billing cycle.
You Just Invoiced Me for Another Month. Can I Suspend Today?
You can schedule to suspend or downgrade your service any time after 24 hours of activation: however, the suspension will not take place until your upcoming renewal date. If you wait until your upcoming renewal date (the day your invoice is released) to suspend service ,you will be charged for another month of service and your suspension request will be automatically scheduled for the following renewal date.
Can I Schedule to Suspend My Subscription Plan Any Time Before My Renewal Date?
Yes, you may schedule to suspend your subscription service anytime however, any suspensions or downgrades of service will only take effect on your upcoming renewal date.

Why Did You Charge Me Again? I Only Signed up for 1 Month?
If you did not schedule to suspend or cancel your Freedom service subscription prior to your renewal date, the Freedom plan service subscription will automatically recur on your renewal date and you will be charged for an additional month at the current plan rate.

I Just Suspended My Subscription Plan, Why Am I Still Being Billed?
You are charged an annual fee of $34.95 USD on the account anniversary date of your plan, or the remaining unbilled usage fees from your last month of active service, if applicable. However, you will not be charged another activation fee when your reactivate your service.
