Changing Heart Rate Zones in Garmin Connect

Heart rate zones are used to measure cardiovascular strength and improve fitness level. Heart rate zones will be displayed and calculated based on percentages of your maximum heart rate (% max). They can also be customized to best match your current fitness level and are set within the device settings.

Some devices are capable of setting separate heart rate zones for running, swimming and cycling which would only apply for those specific activity types. If your device is compatible with secondary heart rate zones, you will see options to add them while following the steps below.

Setting your heart rate zones based on Lactate Threshold is only available if you have a device compatible with that function. Refer to your owner's manual for more information.

Why Would I Need to Use Different Heart Rate Zones for Each Activity Type?

Typically using the default heart rate zones for all activities will be preferred. Using different zone settings for different activity types can be useful for different types of training. For advice on how you should use different heart rate zone settings we advise speaking with a personal training coach.
