Information Received from a Garmin eLog ELD

If Installed Properly in a Compatible Vehicle, the Garmin eLog™ Compliant ELD will Receive the Following Information from the Diagnostic Port:

  • Vehicle miles
  • Vehicle speed
  • Engine hours
  • Engine RPM
  • VIN
  • Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) ID/power unit number

The first four items in the above list are mandatory to have a compliant electronic logging device, per the FMCSA regulation. The VIN and CMV ID may be entered manually into the Garmin eLog™ app during the profile setup, if not automatically received from the vehicle.

If any of the above parameters are not received from the vehicle while using the Garmin eLog ELD, the inspection report generated in the Garmin eLog app will show one or more engine synchronization data diagnostic events. This can result in engine synchronization compliance malfunction events in the app if the missing data persists. To avoid this, ensure that the Garmin eLog is installed properly in a compatible vehicle.
