Location of the inReach Sync Log Files

As with other Garmin update applications, inReach® Sync creates log files on the computer for troubleshooting. These files contain information that will allow Product Support to identify the issue and provide a resolution in a timely manner.

The below contains steps for how to collect these logs.


Windows

  1. Access the computer's drives.

    • Windows 8 or newer: Windows (Windows Icon) key + E and select This PC or Computer.

    • Windows 7 and older: Windows (Windows Icon) key + E.

  2. Double-click the Windows C: drive.

  3. Double-click the ProgramData folder.

    • ProgramData may be a hidden folder. Steps for showing hidden files will vary for different versions of Windows:

      Windows 10 and 11 

      1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar.

        • Or press Windows (Windows Icon) key + E to open File Explorer.

      2. Select View.

      3. Select Options.

      4. Select Change folder and search options.

      5. Select the View tab.

      6. Under Advanced Settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives.

      7. Select OK.

      Windows 8.1

      1. From the charms bar, select Search:

        • If using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then select Search.

        • If using a touch pad or touchscreen, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, then select Search.

      2. Type folder in the search box.

      3. Select the View tab.

      4. Under Advanced Settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives.

      5. Select OK.

      Windows 7

      1. Select the Start menu.

      2. Select Control Panel.

      3. Select Appearance and Personalization.

      4. Select Folder Options.

      5. Select the View tab.

      6. Under Advanced Settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives.

      7. Select OK

  4. Double-click the Garmin folder.

  5. Double-click the inReachSync folder.

Copy all the .txt files in the inReachSync folder and save them to your computer, then use Secure File Upload to provide them to Product Support. For instructions, see - Sending a File, Folder, Photo or Video to Garmin Product Support.

NOTE: As an alternative copy the following into Microsoft Edge and press Enter to pull up the sync logs: C:\ProgramData\Garmin\inReachSync


Mac 

  1. Left click on the Desktop screen.

  2. Press Command + Shift + C.

  3. Select Macintosh HD.

  4. Double-click the Users folder.

  5. Double-click the folder for your username.

  6. Double-click either the DeLorme or Garmin folder.

  7. Double-click the inReachSync folder.

Copy all the .txt files in the inReachSync folder and save them to your computer, then use Secure File Upload to provide them to Product Support. For instructions, see - Sending a File, Folder, Photo or Video to Garmin Product Support.
