What Are Garmin Connect Badge Achievements?
Badges are awarded for completing specific goals and can be earned using a Garmin® or Tacx® device. Each badge earns a set amount of points towards your total in order to compete against your connections in the Garmin Connect™ online community. Point levels range from level 1 up to level 10. Available badges change regularly with some only available for a limited time.
Below are instructions that will guide you to the location where you can view earned and available badges, your current level, badge details, and more.
I Was Not Awarded a Badge for an Activity or Challenge I Completed
Not meeting any of the following could result in not earning a badge:
Manually created activities or Move IQ® events will not earn badges.
A Garmin device must be used when recording an activity or completing a challenge.
Running and cycling distance badges as well as quarterly and monthly challenge badges may be completed indoors or outdoors, unless otherwise stated in the badge requirements.
Activities recorded from a Tacx trainer on the Tacx Training™ app or Tacx Training™ desktop app will count towards badges since they are saved directly to Garmin Connect.
Virtual run activities must be recorded with a Garmin watch.
Badges for specific events must be recorded at that event with GPS and cannot be recorded virtually.
The activity recorded needs to be saved and uploaded directly to Garmin Connect and cannot come from a third-party app or website such as Zwift.
Previously recorded activities do not qualify for future badges.
Example: An activity uploaded on January 1st, 2017 which satisfies the requirement for a badge that became available April 3rd, 2018 is not awarded the badge
For badge challenges with a defined timeframe, you must both complete and upload the activity within the challenge timeframe. You must also enroll in the badge challenge during the specified timeframe.
The device must have the activity profile type needed to earn the badge (e.g. a swimming challenge requires the watch to have a swim activity profile on it).
The activity cannot be edited after upload to meet the requirements of the badge (e.g. the distance cannot be extended and the activity type cannot be changed).
Outdoor race badges require the activity to be recorded using GPS.
Some repeatable badges have a limit on the number of times they can be earned by an individual.
Challenge Distance Badges Versus Non-Challenge Distance Badges
Challenge badges must meet the minimum distance requirements but can exceed the distance, along with any other requirements. For example, for a weekend 5k challenge, you could run a marathon and still get the weekend 5k badge.
For non-challenge distance badges the saved activity must be at or near the distance recognized and only one distance badge can be earned per activity. An example would be that you would only get a Marathon badge for a running activity that was 26.2 miles even though technically the activity covers other shorter distance badges that may be available.
Step Badges
To earn a step badge you must complete the designated amount of steps in a single day. You can only receive one step badge per day. For example if you earn 50,000 steps in one day you will receive the "Stepping Up 50K" badge, but you will not earn any of the smaller value "Stepping Up" badges at the same time (e.g. the 15K, 20K, 25K, and 30K badges) even if the value recorded would include the smaller values.
Expedition Challenges
Expedition challenges allow you to complete the equivalent of a legendary hike or climb by tracking your daily steps or floors climbed over a long period of time.
Hike: Tracks distance based on daily steps.
Climb: Tracks ascension based on daily floors climbed. (To see if your device has this feature, refer to your owner's manual).
These challenges have no expiration date so once you have started an expedition you will continue to progress toward earning the Badge as long as you continue to record the corresponding metrics. You can only participate in one hike and one climb expedition at a time. Expedition challenges cannot be earned by your physical location or by elevation data recorded from an activity.
