Can I Use the TR-1 Gold as Heading Sensor for a Chartplotter or Radar?

Although the TR-1 Gold does have a gyro and compass built in, it does not output heading information. You will need a separate heading sensor.

Garmin offers a two different heading sensors the 9-axis Heading Sensor or a SteadyCast Heading Sensor that can be connected to any NMEA 2000 compatible GPS.  If the chartplotter connected to the TR-1 Gold is not compatible with NMEA 2000 a third party Marine Heading Sensor would be necessary such as an Airmar heading sensor.
