Creating Detailed Routes for Overlander on BaseCamp
The BaseCamp™ software can be used to create a detailed route that the Garmin Explore™ app will navigate. This article will guide you through the steps.
First, Create a Track in BaseCamp and Convert it to a Route:
- Open BaseCamp.
- Select a location for the saved track: Selecting a Location for Saved Data Files.
- Select Tools.
- Select Track.
NOTE: The cursor will now appear as a pencil when hovering over the map. - Use the pencil to:
- To create a straight line between points: click a point on the map, then move the cursor and click another point
- To draw a track with curves: left-click on your mouse on the map and drag the cursor along the path you would like to take
- Repeat step 5 to add to the track.
- Right-click to save the track. The track will now appear as a gray line on the map.TIP: You can also press Esc on your keyboard to save the track.
Once the track is saved, convert the track into a route by selecting the appropriate link below for your operating system.

Transfer the Route from BaseCamp:
After converting the track, find the new route in Library and send it to a microSD card or export it to use with your Garmin Explore app. Select the preferred method below:
Access the File on Your Overlander:
Once this is done, select the preferred method below for accessing the file on your Overlander:
Following the Created Route on Your Overlander:
When the above steps have been completed, refer to the following: Overlander On Road Navigation to an Off Road Destination
- If this route is on and off-road, you will toggle between the Garmin Drive and Garmin Explore apps to navigate both the on and off-road portions.
- If this route is off-road with no roads available, you will only follow the route through the Garmin Explore app.
