Viewing Distant Points of Interest or Addresses on an Astro

When planning an upcoming trip, you may want to ensure certain points of interest or addresses are available on your Astro® beforehand.

Depending on what you want to view, there are a couple options listed below for searching in a different location than where you are currently located.

Search Near Function

The Search Near function allows you to view points of interest including cities, tides, or geographical points. With routable mapping in your Astro, such as City Navigator® or TOPO 24K, you can also view gas stations, restaurants, hotels, entertainment spots, and other similar places.

  1. Select Find on the Main Menu
    • Astro 430/900 users: Find is found in Tools
  2. Press Menu
  3. Select Search Near
  4. Press Enter on one of the Search Near options
    • If "A Recent Find" is selected:
      1. Select the recent find to search near
      2. Choose the category of item to search for
    • If "A Waypoint" is selected:
      1. Select the waypoint to search near
      2. Choose the category of item to search for
    • If "My Current Location" is selected:
      1. Select the category of item to search for near your current location
    • If "A Map Point" is selected:
      1. Move the map so that the cursor or red pin is on the point you wish to use
      2. Press Enter
      3. Select the category of item to search for

The Astro will now provide search results near the different location.

Searching for an Address

The ability to search for an address on your Astro requires a routable map, such as City Navigator or TOPO 24K. It is also important that the map covers the area you wish to search in.

The steps vary slightly if you are currently located in the country you want to search within, or if you want to search within another country.

Select an option below for steps.

Address Is in the Same Country I Am Located In
  1. Select Find on the Main Menu
    • Astro 430/900 users: Find is found in Tools
  2. Select Addresses
  3. Select Enter State/Province, or select the current state/province underneath that
    • Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the state or province
    • As you type, results may appear. Select Done to choose from the results -or- continue typing, select Done then select state/province from the results
  4. Select Enter City/Postal Code, or Search All
    • Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the city or postal code
    • As you type, results may appear. Select Done to choose from the results -or- continue typing, select Done then select city/postal code from the results
  5. Enter the House Number appears on the screen
    • Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the street number. Select Done
  6. Enter the Street Name appears on the screen
    • Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the street name
    • As you type, the closest results appear. Select Done to choose from the results -or- continue typing, select Done then select the street name from the results
    • If there are similar or inexact results, a list of addresses may appear. Select desired address

The address will appear on the map. You can use the middle Rocker button to pan the map around and the in/out buttons to zoom in or out.

You can also save the address as a waypoint for later use. To do so:

  1. Press Menu
  2. Select Review Point
  3. Press Menu again
  4. Select Save as Waypoint

A confirmation should display that the waypoint was saved. The waypoint can be found under Waypoint Manager, or under Waypoints from Find.

Address Is in Another Country I Am Not Located In
  1. Select Find on the Main Menu
    • Astro 430/900 users: Find is found in Tools
  2. Select Addresses
  3. Select Enter the Country
    • Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the country name
    • Select country from the results
  4. Select Enter City/Postal Code, or Search All
    • Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the city or postal code
    • As you type, results may appear. Select Done to choose from the results -or- continue typing, select Done then select city/postal code from the results
  5. Enter the Street Name appears on the screen
    • Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the street name
    • As you type, results may appear. Select Done to choose from the results -or- continue typing, select Done then select street name from the results
  6. Enter the House Number appears on the screen
    • Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the street number. Select Done
    • If there are similar or inexact results, a list of addresses may appear. Select desired address

The address will appear on the map. You can use the directional button to pan the map around and the in/out buttons to zoom in or out.

You can also save the address as a waypoint for later use. To do so:

  1. Press Menu
  2. Select Review Point
  3. Press Menu again
  4. Select Save as Waypoint

A confirmation should display that the waypoint was saved. The waypoint can be found under Waypoint Manager, or under Waypoints from Find.
