StreetPilot c300 or c500 series device not speaking street names
All Garmin automotive devices that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts (i.e. 'Turn Right in 500 feet') as well as 'text-to-speech' voices that speak street names. If one of the basic types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
To change the voice language on the StreetPilot c340 to speak street names:
- Touch the wrench icon
- Touch Language
- Touch Voice Language
- This screen will show a list of languages for the device. All text-to-speech languages have a person's name after the description of the language. There will be a female voice and a male voice.
- Example: American English - Jill is the female voice for American English that speaks street names.
- Select a language then touch OK
The device should now speak street names.
To change the voice language on the StreetPilot c550 or c580 to speak street names:
- Touch the wrench icon
- Touch Locale
- Touch the box next to the red lips icon
- Select a voice language that has "TTS" listed next to the language
- Touch Next to save changes
The device should now speak street names.
