Battery Charging Issues With a Montana 600 Series

If the Lithium-ion battery1 for a Montana® 600 series outdoor handheld is not charging at all or fails to charge completely, follow these instructions.

NOTE: Use the USB charging cable that came with the Montana handheld to ensure a proper charge.

  1. Make sure the software is up to date with the Garmin Express™ program. For instructions, see - Updating the Software on a Device That Will Not Charge.
  2. Connect the Montana handheld to an AC charger.
  3. Leave the Montana handheld connected to charge for 3+ hours.

If the Montana handheld charges but does not charge all the way to 100%, try 3 separate 3 hour charge cycles. It may also help to try connecting the AC charger to a different power source.

The charging cable may need to be replaced if the Montana handheld begins to take a charge when connected to the computer but does not charge all the way. The battery will likely need to be replaced if it still fails to take any charge.

Replacement charging accessories can be purchased from our website. The battery pack may be available at a Garmin dealer.

If the Montana handheld will not charge and a replacement battery or cable does not resolve the problem, the device may need to be exchanged.

1 Charging instructions only apply for the Lithium-ion Battery Pack that comes with the devicenot to other rechargeable batteries that may be used.
