Powering a Garmin® Marine Chartplotter Using AC Power

Garmin® chartplotters and sounders require 12 volts of DC power to operate. There is not an internal voltage regulator to convert the 110 volts from an AC outlet.

The only way to power the device using an AC outlet is to purchase a separate 12 volt DC power cable for the device and an AC to DC converter box. To find the appropriate power cable, view the Accessories tab for the device found on the Garmin webpage.

The last item needed is an AC to DC converter box. This can be found at a local electronic store. As long as the AC to DC converter box can output over 12 volts and 3 amps, the 12 volt power cable can connect to the AC to DC converter box and will enable the device to power on.
