Installing a microSD Card Into an Outdoor or Marine Handheld Device

Many Garmin outdoor products have a microSD card slot located in the battery compartment. You can install a microSD memory card for additional storage or pre-loaded maps.

Watch the following video for instructions or follow the steps below.

Installing a microSD Card Into a Handheld

  1. Remove the battery cover
  2. Remove the batteries
  3. Slide the card holder  in the direction indicated by the Open or Unlock arrow

  4. Insert the memory card  with the gold contacts facing down
  5. Close the card holder
  6. Slide the card holder in the Lock direction
  7. Replace the batteries and battery cover

The card should now be locked securely in place.

Using a microSD Card in a Handheld

There are some things to keep in mind when using a microSD card in a handheld device:

  • Your device automatically reads maps from a microSD card when powered on. If your device does not read the maps, see Related Content for possible solutions.
  • Any user data created on the device, such as waypoints, routes, tracks or activities, are saved to the device's memory and cannot be saved to the microSD card1.
  • Handheld devices have a limitation to the amount of data it can read, regardless if that data is on the device itself or on a microSD card. For more information, see - Managing Storage Space on Your Garmin Outdoor Handheld

1The only exception to this is that some older devices could save track logs to the card. For information, see - Log Track to Data Card for Older Garmin Outdoor Handhelds
