Issues Transferring Data Between a New Garmin Handheld and MapSource

Newer mass storage devices utilize a new method of storing data which is not fully compatible with MapSource® software. This can cause issues transferring data to and from the device.

These devices include the following:

  • Alpha 501 dog tracking handheld
  • Alpha® 100 dog tracking handheld
  • Astro® 320 dog tracking handheld
  • Astro® 430 dog tracking handheld
  • Dakota™ series outdoor handhelds
  • eTrex® 10, 20, 20x, 22x, 30, 30x, 32x, and Touch 35 outdoor handhelds
  • fēnix® series outdoor watches
  • GPSMAP®78 series outdoor handhelds
  • GPSMAP® 62, 64, 65, 66 series outdoor handhelds
  • Montana® series outdoor handhelds
  • Monterra™ outdoor handheld
  • Oregon® 450, 550, 600 series, and 700 series outdoor handhelds
  • Rino® 600 and 700 series outdoor handhelds
  • tactix® series watches

MapSource software is no longer being developed. BaseCamp™ software, the successor to the MapSource program, is available for free at http://www.garmin.com/baseCamp. BaseCamp software is designed specifically for these devices and addresses this new method of data storage. Additionally, BaseCamp software provides enhanced interaction with detailed map products along with many new features not available in MapSource software.

Using the BaseCamp program, you will now be able to transfer data to and from the device.
