Learn More About BirdsEye Subscriptions
BirdsEye Satellite Imagery is no longer available for purchase. For users with an existing subscription it is a service that provides high-resolution satellite imagery or detailed raster maps for use with a compatible Garmin device.1
With an active subscription images are downloaded through our BaseCamp™ program for use with Windows or Mac computers. An internet connection is required to download imagery.
The following is a comparison of the previously available BirdsEye services.
BirdsEye Services
Subscription Based:
For users with an existing subscription it lasts for 1-year from the activation date. The imagery downloaded to your device during the subscription does not expire. When the subscription expires, the imagery cannot be transferred to the device from BaseCamp™. The imagery already on your device remains on the device.
Credit Based:
Purchased based on credits, which are equal to square kilometers. BirdsEye Select covers certain European countries or regions, and depending on the product being purchased, the scale and amount of credits can vary. Additional coverage can be purchased as needed with existing credits and is available for 1-year from the date of activation.

Comparing BirdsEye TOPO and Other Garmin TOPO Maps
BirdsEye TOPO was an option for those that do not necessarily need an entire region/country, or those that simply prefer a raster-type map. BirdsEye requires a computer with internet connection.
For information on finding the best map for your needs, see Related. You can also see a side-by-side comparison below of the same area in all current Garmin TOPO products: BirdsEye TOPO Raster, TopoActive, TOPO U.S. 100K and TOPO U.S. 24K.
Important Notes About BirdsEye
- BirdsEye images are not routable because they are not maps, they are picture overlays. As such, they will overlay with TOPO map products like 24K so you could, for instance, see satellite imagery on top of a detailed and routable topographic map.
- BirdsEye subscriptions are locked to a single device.
- You can only view one type of BirdsEye image at a time. For example, if you have images for the same area in both BirdsEye TOPO and BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, you would need to disable one to see the other.
1 Garmin devices using BirdsEye Direct where the imagery is downloaded directly through Wi-Fi are not affected by the discontinuation of the subscription services.
