Using Music Controls on a Montana 700 Series Device

The Montana® 700, Montana® 700i, and Montana® 750i outdoor handhelds feature a data screen that allows you to control the music on a paired smartphone. Available features include play, pause, skip to the next or previous track, and volume. The feature requires the Latest Software On Your Device. This will control the last used media player on your paired smartphone. 

Adding the Music Control Feature 

  1. Select Home to reach the main menu.

  2. Select Add Page

  3. Select Music Control.


Pairing With the Garmin Connect App

To utilize the music controls on your Montana 700 Series device it will need to be paired to your phone using the Garmin Connect app.


First Time Users

  1. Install and open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Select Sign In.

    • Below the sign in option, select Create One and follow the prompts to create an account if you do not already have a Garmin account.

  3. Read and agree to the EULA and terms, then tap Next.

  4. On the Montana, touch Home to reach the main menu.

  5. Select Setup.

  6. Select Pair Phone.

    • NOTE: If you do not see Pair Phone, you will need to select Phone, then Forget Phone before the Montana handheld can be paired.

  7. Select Pair.

  8. In the Garmin Connect app, select Connect It after Garmin Connect finds your Montana handheld, then follow the prompts.

    • If it does not display, select Browse all compatible devices and search for your model.

The Montana will now be paired with the Garmin Connect app.


Existing Garmin Connect App Users

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).

  3. Select Garmin Devices.

  4. Select Add Device.

  5. On the Montana, touch Home to reach the main menu.

  6. Select Setup.

  7. Select Pair Phone.

    • NOTE: If you do not see Pair Phone, you will need to select Phone, then Forget Phone before the Montana handheld can be paired.

  8. Select Pair.

  9. In the Garmin Connect app, select Connect It after Garmin Connect finds your Montana handheld, then follow the prompts.

    • If it does not display, select Browse all compatible devices and search for your model.

The Montana will now be paired with the Garmin Connect app.


Accessing the Music Controls Feature

On the Montana, touch Home to reach the main menu, then select Music Control.

The Music Control Feature Is Not Controlling the Last Used Media Player on My Phone

This issue requires you to ensure that all app permissions are enabled. Select a phone platform below to reveal instructions.

Android

Step 1: Review App Permissions Settings

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Select Phone Permissions.

  5. Select Manage Permissions.

  6. Select Permissions and ensure there is nothing listed under DENIED.

Step 2: Confirm That Notification Access Has Been Granted to the Garmin Connect App

Location of this setting will vary by phone manufacturer. If you cannot find this setting, contact your phone manufacturer for assistance. The following are general steps and may not match your particular model phone.

  1. Open the phone's Settings menu.

  2. Select the magnifying glass icon at the top of the screen.

  3. Input “Access” into the search box.

  4. Select Notification Access or Access to Notifications.

    • On some phones you may need to select Special Access first.

  5. Enable access to notifications for Connect.


iOS

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Select Phone Permissions.

  5. If any permissions are toggled off, toggle them on.
