Using a Garmin® Chartplotter as a Wi-Fi Access Point for Fusion® Stereos
A Garmin® chartplotter with Wi-Fi capabilities can be used as a Wi-Fi access point for Fusion® Apollo™ stereos. A Garmin chartplotter with Garmin Marine Network and Wi-Fi capabilities can be used as an access point for both Wi-Fi and Ethernet capable Fusion Apollo stereos.
A stereo connected in such a way can update software wirelessly via the Fusion® Audio app, stream music via Apple AirPlay or Android UPnP, and be grouped to other stereos connected to the same network to share audio sources.
To enable Wi-Fi on the Garmin chartplotter, select Options (skip this step on ECHOMAP™ devices) > Settings > Communications > Wi-Fi Network > Wi-Fi and the chartplotter will set its own Wi-Fi network name and password. These can be changed from this screen.
For stereos that will be connected to the chartplotter via Wi-Fi, select Menu > Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Client > SSID then select the chartplotter Wi-Fi name and enter the password.
For stereos that will be connected via Ethernet to the Garmin Marine Network:
Connect the stereo to the chartplotter using the Garmin Marine Network to Fusion Cable
Depending on the amount of Garmin Marine Network ports available on the chartplotter, a GMS™ 10 Network Port Expander may be necessary
- If the stereo is on software version 6.20 or greater then it will not have the Garmin Marine Network option within its Network menu.
On the stereo select
Menu > Settings > Network > Garmin Marine Network
All connected Garmin stereos may now be grouped, and a smart device like a phone or tablet may be connected to the same network for use with the Fusion Audio app.
