Syncing Amazon Music Content to the vivoactive 3 Music

This article will provide instructions to use the Connect IQ™ app for Amazon Music the vívoactive® 3 Music watch.

What are the Requirements to use the Amazon Music Connect IQ app?

  • The watch must be paired to your smartphone through the Garmin Connect app.

  • The watch must be set up to connect to a Wi-Fi network. For help see: Adding Wi-Fi Networks to Compatible Watches.

    • If using the vívoactive® 3 Music (Verizon) watch edition, an active Verizon subscription is required to connect to the Verizon LTE network as this model cannot connect to Wi-Fi.

  • An Amazon Prime or Amazon Music Unlimited account is required. For help see What is the Difference Between Prime Music and Amazon Music Unlimited?

  • You must be the Amazon Prime primary account holder. A family member sharing the benefit of Amazon Prime Music will not work. 

  • If you have never used the GPS on your watch, or if the battery has been completely discharged recently, you may be prompted to enable GPS after accessing the Amazon Music app. GPS can be enabled by choosing an outdoor activity. For instructions see: vívoactive 3 Music - Starting an Activity.

  • The app will work in the following countries:

    • Australia

I Meet the Requirements. What's Next?

Follow each step listed below when first setting up the Amazon Music app with your vívoactive 3 Music. You will only need to follow the third step when you want to load additional content to your watch. 

Select each section to expand and view instructions.


Step 1: Download and Install the Amazon Music Connect IQ App

  1. Select the following link to download the app: Amazon Music Connect IQ app.

  2. If prompted, sign in to your Garmin account.

  3. Select your device to download the app.

  4. Acknowledge any app permission requests.

  5. The message should indicate that the app will be installed during the next sync. If this does not occur automatically, below are options to sync your device:

    • To sync via Bluetooth: Be in range of your paired smartphone, then press and hold the key to access the Controls Menu. Select blue arrows to sync.

    • To sync via Wi-Fi: Be in range of your Wi-Fi network, then press and hold the key to access the Controls Menu. Select blue arrows to sync.

    • To sync using Garmin Express: Connect the device to a computer using the charging cable. Open Garmin Express. The sync will automatically occur once the device is detected.

Once the sync is complete, the Amazon Music app will be installed on your watch. You are ready to move to Step 2 below.


Step 2: Initial Setup of the Amazon Music Connect IQ App

Once the app is installed, you will be prompted on the watch to continue the setup.

  1. Swipe the screen on the watch to the Music widget.

  2. Press and hold the screen.

  3. Select Music Providers.

  4. Select Amazon Music.

  5. The screen should prompt you to visit https://amazon.com/us/code. The code provided on the watch will tie it to your Amazon account. Use a mobile device or personal computer to complete this step. Once completed allow up to a few minutes for the watch to proceed to the main menu. 

You are ready to move to Step 3 below.


Step 3: Selecting and Syncing Content to the vívoactive 3 Music

Your watch must be able to connect to your Wi-Fi network to download content from Amazon Music, or connect to the Verizon LTE network if using the vívoactive 3 Music (Verizon).

To sync new content to your watch, follow these steps:

  1. On your watch, swipe your screen to the Music widget.

  2. Press and hold the screen.

  3. Select Music Providers.

  4. Select Amazon Music.

  5. Select Browse.

  6. Select a category then choose the content you want to sync to your watch.

    • At this point, the watch will attempt to connect to your Wi-Fi network (or Verizon LTE if using the vívoactive 3 Music (Verizon) edition). We recommend plugging the watch into a charger near the Wi-Fi router for the best results. For instructions for using the music player on your watch, see the vívoactive 3 Music owner's manual.

After you have added content to your watch, any changes you make to your playlist(s) will sync over automatically when your watch is charging and in the range of a saved Wi-Fi network. You can also manually initiate a sync to update playlists and report all songs played to Amazon Music by following these steps:

  1. On your watch, swipe your screen to the Music widget.

  2. Press and hold the screen.

  3. Select Music Providers.

  4. Select Amazon Music.

  5. Select Sync.

    • At this point, the watch will attempt to connect to your Wi-Fi network. We recommend plugging the watch into a charger near the Wi-Fi router (if using the vivoactive 3 Music (Verizon) edition) for the best results.
