Getting Started With the Montana 710i/760i

Below is a list of articles that will help you get started with, and get the most out of, your new Montana® 710i or 760i outdoor handheld.

How Do I Get Started?

First, we recommend that you fully charge your Montana 710i/760i handheld (see Charging the Battery).

  1. Power on the Montana handheld by holding Power Button on the side.

    ONE POWER

    • Short press to open the status page.

    • Press and hold to turn the device on.

    • Press and hold until Power Iconis displayed to turn the device off.

    TWO SOS

    • Initiate or cancel an SOS request.

    THREE TOUCHSCREEN

    • Tap the screen to select an item.

    • Make each touchscreen selection a separate action.

    • Select Checkmark to save your changes and close the page.

    • Select X to close the page.

    • Select Back Arrow to return to the previous page.

    • Select Home Icon to open the main menu.

    • Select three-bar menu icon to view specific menu items for the page you are viewing.


  2. Choose your language by scrolling through the list, and select your language.

  3. Choose to activate an inReach® satellite messaging subscription (optional), or select Skip.

  4. Once the activation is complete, or you have skipped the activation, the handheld will display the map page.

  5. We recommend pairing your Montana 710i/760i with the Garmin Explore™ app. For pairing instructions, see - Pairing the Montana 700 Series with a Phone or Tablet.

    • NOTE: inReach subscribers will have additional features such as messaging with the Garmin Explore app.
