Check Engine or Service Engine Soon warning light

The Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light is a warning light for multiple systems operating in your vehicle. In simplest terms, it’s like an engine management warning light to alert you of a problem. Just like your computer pops up with an “error message window” saying that something is wrong, your Service Engine Soon light pops up to warn you that it has detected a malfunction: mechanical, technical, software, or otherwise.

When the light turns on, a code is stored in the vehicle's computer system. ecoRoute HD has the ability to read these codes and send the information about the code to your Garmin device.

To View the Codes on your Garmin Device:

  1. With your Garmin device powered on to the Main Menu, touch Tools
  2. Touch ecoRoute
  3. Touch the Down Arrow
  4. Touch Diagnostics

Any trouble codes found by the ecoRoute HD accessory will be displayed on the Garmin device. Touching a code on the screen will display detailed information about the problem when available. To learn more details about the meaning of a code please utilize an internet search engine or contact an authorized automotive technician.

Touching Reset at the bottom of the screen will clear the trouble codes out of the computer on most vehicles. If you receive the message "Could not clear codes(s). See an authorized automotive technician", then your vehicle may require a special tool in order to clear the codes from the vehicle's computer.
