GDI_DIBSECTION.CPP Error in MapSource
Description
The GDI_DIBSECTION.CPP error in MapSource® mapping software is typically caused by a corrupt registry key.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, delete the corrupt registry key using Registry Editor.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. Garmin cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
To open Registry Editor:
- Press the Windows key + R
- Type regedit
- Click OK
Important: Before making any changes, create a backup of the registry.
To back up the registry:
- Click File in the menu bar of the Registry Editor
- Click Export
- Under Export range, click All
- Name the file (e.g. regbackup)
- Choose an accessible location to save the file, such as the Desktop
- Click the Save button
Registry Editor may appear to freeze for several minutes while the backup is created. "(Not Responding)" may also display in the title bar during this process. Once the application starts responding again, the registry key can be deleted.
To delete the registry key:
- Click ▷ next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
- Click ▷ next to Software
- Click ▷ next to Garmin
- Right-click on the MapSource folder
- Click Delete
- Close the Registry Editor
Deleting this registry key should prevent this error message in the future.
