My Garmin Device Displays "IQ!" When Accessing My Connect IQ App

If you see an 'IQ! Error' displayed on your device, it may be caused by pending software updates or problems/installation issues with an app/data field/widget.

Garmin Connect™ App

Step 1: Make Sure the Software on Your Garmin Device Is up to Date

The Garmin Connect app should automatically send updates to your device using Bluetooth® or ANT+ technology. There is no way to force an update to your device. If you want to manually check for available software updates you will need to connect your device to a personal Windows or Mac computer and use the Garmin Express™ program.

Step 2: Remove the Connect IQ™ Content From Your Device

NOTE: Your device will not show as connected in the Connect IQ Store App unless you are first connected in the Garmin Connect app. If you are having issues connecting please refer to  Garmin Connect App Bluetooth Troubleshooting

  1. Open the Connect IQ Store app on your Mobile device.

  2. Select My Device (bottom right).

  3. Select the content type (such as: My Watch Faces, Device Apps, Data Fields, Music) that is causing the error on your device.

  4. Under 'Installed', select the Content.

  5. Select Uninstall.

  6. Repeat if you have multiple items installed with this "IQ!" issue.

  7. Restart your Mobile device.

  8. Restart your Garmin device ( How Do I Restart My Garmin Device?).

Step 3: Reinstall the Connect IQ Content to Your Device

NOTE: Your device will not show as connected in the Connect IQ Store App unless you are first connected in the Garmin Connect app. If you are having issues connecting please refer to  Garmin Connect App Bluetooth Troubleshooting

  1. Open the Connect IQ Store app on your Mobile device.

  2. Make sure your device is selected and connected by selecting "My Device" (bottom right).

  3. If you need to change your device tap the 3 dots (top right) and Select a Device.

  4. Once your device is selected and shows connected, decide if you want to re-install the previous Connect IQ content or install new content. 

    • Install Previous Content:

      1. Select My Device.

      2. Select My Watch Faces, Device Apps, Data Fields, or Music.

      3. Under "Not Installed" you should see your previous downloads.

    • Install New Content:

      1. To search for new content use the Search tab at the bottom.

      2. To narrow your search choose a content type such as: Watch Faces, Apps, Data Fields, or Music.

  5. Select Content.

  6. Select Install.

  7. Select Download.

  8. Review and accept terms, if required.

  9. Grant permissions (if required) by selecting Allow.

  10. Once the app is finished downloading, exit the Connect IQ Store and sync the device in the Garmin Connect app.

Once you have successfully synced your Garmin watch, the Connect IQ content should display on your device without this error message. 


Garmin Express™ Program

Step 1: Make Sure Your Device Software Is up to Date

  1. Plug your device into your computer using the USB cable.

  2. Open Garmin Express program, then select your device.

  3. If it says "You're up to date" your device is running the latest software.

  4. If it says "You have items ready to install," select Install.

    • Unplug your device from the USB charging cable to allow the update to install. Plug back into the computer once complete.

Step 2: Remove the Connect IQ™ Content From Your Device

  1. Open Garmin Express program, then select your device.

  2. Select IQ Apps.

  3. Select All from the drop-down menu (top right).

  4. Find the feature that is causing the error on your device, then select the X to the right to remove it.

  5. Select the back arrow at the top left, then select Sync to sync your device.

    • The Connect IQ content will no longer be on your device once the sync is complete.

  6. Unplug your watch from your USB charging cable and verify the Connect IQ! error is no longer present.

Step 3: Reinstall the Connect IQ Content to Your Device

  1. Connect the device to your computer using your USB charging cable.

  2. Open Garmin Express, then select your device. 

  3. Select IQ Apps, then decide if you want to re-install the previous Connect IQ Content or install new content. 

    • Install Previous Connect IQ Content:

      1. Select All from the drop-down menu (top right). 

      2. Find the content and select Cloud icon with arrow pointing down to send to device.

    • Install New Connect IQ Content:

      1. Select Get More Apps Icon in Garmin Express (bottom right) and a web browser will open to our Connect IQ store.

      2. Use the search bar to discover new content.

      3. Select New Content.

      4. Select Download.

  4. Review and accept terms, if required.

  5. Grant permissions (if required) by selecting Allow.

  6. Open Garmin Express program and select SYNC.

  7. Unplug your device from the USB charging cable and verify the Connect IQ! error is no longer present.
