Starting and Stopping Tracking on the Montana 700i/750i
Tracking on the Montana® 700i and Montana® 750i outdoor handhelds is the uploading of your position coordinates at a specific interval. This allows others to view the path you are traveling during your adventures via your LiveTrack™ page or MapShare™ page. If you wish to simply record the activity on the device without uploading your position coordinates, use the Recording Controls option instead of Tracking (see - Recording an Activity on the Montana 700 Series).
By default, Tracking is set to an interval of 10 minutes and must be started manually. When Tracking is started, the track recording on the device is also started automatically. If desired, you can change the interval on the Montana under Setup > Tracking > Moving Interval.
IMPORTANT: An active inReach® subscription is required for the uploading of track points with the Tracking feature. With the Safety,1 Essential, and Enabled plans, there is an additional cost per point (varies by currency) using the Moving Interval. As an example, if your Moving Interval is set to 10 minutes and you had tracking on for 1 hour, you could be charged for 7 track points (this includes a starting track point). What is an Activity vs Tracking?
Activities are recorded coordinates (or breadcrumbs) connected together and their associated data (elevation, time, distance, etc.). This is for the benefit of the device user to record and review their own activities.
Tracking is for the Montana 700i and 750i handhelds only and are coordinates connected together that can be uploaded in real-time with an active inReach subscription. This is for the benefit of others to follow along while the tracking is in progress. For more details on setting up LiveTrack or MapShare, see Related .
Starting Tracking on the Montana 700i and 750i Handhelds
Touch
to reach the main menu.Select
.Select Tracking.
Select Start Tracking to begin tracking.
OPTIONAL: Send your LiveTrack or MapShare link to recipients to allow them to follow along with your track. This counts against your plan's monthly message allotment. If your plan does not have unlimited messaging, this can result in additional costs once your allotment is used up. Sending your LiveTrack or MapShare link only counts as one message regardless of how many recipients are entered, but if recipients reply, each reply counts against the allotment.
Select Share With.
Select OK.
Select the To field to select or enter recipients.
Select Type Recipients to manually enter contact information, or select from the list of available contacts.
Select
when done.
Select Message field to add to the default message, or delete it and type your own.
Use the keyboard to make the desired changes.
Select
when done.
Select Send Message.
A link to either your LiveTrack page or your MapShare page will be included with the message.
Tracking has been started and will begin uploading to your LiveTrack or MapShare page.
Stopping Tracking on the Montana 700i and 750i Handhelds
When you are done sharing your track, you can stop it with the steps below.

Link with Recording
The Montana 700i and 750i handhelds have a feature that allows you to link inReach tracking with activity recording. With this setting enabled, starting/stopping activity recording will also start/stop inReach tracking automatically.

Select Tracking.
Select Link with Recording to enable or disable the setting.
