GPX and FIT Files Show Different Data for the Same Activity
Some Garmin devices can simultaneously record track data in both the GPX and FIT file formats. These file formats are designed for specific uses and each have their own strengths. Because these file formats record data differently, the same activity may show some variation when the two formats are compared. For assistance changing the output file format, see the owner's manual for your device.
FIT
- Totals recorded, like distance, will be more accurate when compared to GPX
- Includes detailed track stat data that can be read by various programs
For best results, utilize the Garmin Connect™ program when viewing FIT files.
GPX
- Totals recorded, like distance, will be less accurate when compared to FIT
- Should be used when raw position data is more important than total distance recorded
For best results, utilize Garmin BaseCamp™ software when viewing GPX files.
