Kenwood SD Card Not Detected, Recognized, or Incompatible in Garmin Express

The Garmin Express™ software may display a microSD/SD card as incompatible or fail to detect the microSD/SD card if there is a problem with the card or the computer's USB configuration.

  1. Ensure Garmin Express is up to date.

  2. Verify the microSD/SD card is within the size limits and has sufficient available space for the update. The update process on a Kenwood device requires a USB memory stick or microSD/SD card between 8GB and 32GB.

  3. Ensure the card is pushed in all the way. Some devices have a spring-loaded slot that will click softly when the card is fully inserted.

  4. Take steps to ensure the computer's USB configuration is as simple as possible:

    • Do not use a USB hub or extension cable.

    • Use the USB ports on the back of the computer if using a desktop computer.

    • Unplug all USB devices except for the mouse and keyboard, reboot the computer, and try again.

  5. Try a different USB port on the computer.

  6. Format the memory card

  7. Try using a different microSD/SD card.

  8. See Automotive Device Not Detected by Garmin Express on a Mac if you are on Mac Catalina, Big Sur, or newer.

  9. Run Garmin Express as an administrator.

  10. Run Garmin Express on a different computer.

    • If using a Mac computer, you can try a different Admin User before trying another computer.

    • Contact Apple for instructions.

A functioning microSD/SD card should be detected if these troubleshooting steps are taken.
