How to Install Software Updates to My Garmin Astro 900
The Garmin Astro 900 software should be kept up-to-date in order to take advantage of improvements and bug fixes. Updates are free, and easy to install. Software updates can be installed through Garmin Express. Garmin Express provides the ability to check for software automatically each time the device is connected to a computer.
Important: If this is your first time using a computer with your Astro 900, you will need to download and install Garmin Express.

Updating the Garmin Astro 900 Software Through Garmin Express
- Connect your Astro 900 to your computer with the mini USB
- It is recommended to use cable that came with your device

- Launch Garmin Express
- Windows: Either double-click the express icon in the system tray (next to your time), double-click the shortcut on the desktop, or search for Garmin Express in your Start menu.
- Mac: Garmin Express can be found in the Applications folder in Finder.
- Select your Astro 900
- Note: If this is your first time using Garmin Express, you will need to Add a Device first.

- Garmin Express will then display the available updates, select Install or Install All.
- Review and accept any prompts for Terms and Conditions or Important Notes

- Once complete, disconnect your device from the computer and power on the Astro 430 to allow it load the update
My Astro 900 is Not Recognized by Garmin Express
If your Astro 900 is not recognized by Garmin Express, try the following steps first:
- Answer "Yes" to any prompt to enter mass storage mode
- Try a different USB cable
- Try a different USB port on the computer
- Restart the computer
If the device still fails to appear as a drive on the computer you can use the steps below to force the device into USB mass storage mode.
To force the device into mass storage mode:
- Disconnect the device from the computer
- Power the device off
- Press and hold UP on the directional pad
- Plug the device into the computer
- Wait until the device is recognized by the computer (this may take up to 30 seconds)
- If prompted, install USB device drivers
- Release the held button when the unit appears as a drive
